From 6 April 2016 the Dividend Tax Credit has been replaced by a new tax-free Dividend Allowance in the form of a nil% tax rate on the first £5,000 of dividend income per year.
If you are a UK resident shareholder in Custodian REIT Plc, which is a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), the new Dividend Allowance WILL NOT APPLY to any Property Income Distribution (PID) which the Company pays by way of dividend. PID dividends will continue to be paid net of a 20% withholding tax, unless you are eligible to receive the payment gross.
